Two Easy Ways to Improve Indoor Air Quality this Winter

As the weather gets colder and days get shorter, your family is likely spending a little more time indoors. It’s important to ensure the air circulating in your home is as healthy and dust-free as possible!

Even when it’s too cold to open a window, there are some ways to proactively protect your indoor air quality.

Ditch those cardboard boxes!

One way to improve indoor air quality is to be intentional about storage. Once the holidays are over and it’s time to pack up all the decorations, skip the cardboard boxes and opt for plastic storage bins. Cardboard boxes collect a lot of dust, which can trigger asthma and allergy symptoms and promote dust mite infestations. Even if you typically store those cardboard boxes in your garage or attic, over time, the dust seeps in! If you can’t afford to replace all your cardboard boxes at once, opt for plastic bags for a more affordable, dust-free solution.

Keep your pets clean!

Another way to improve indoor air quality is to monitor your pets’ hygiene. Give them a bath regularly and brush their coats thoroughly to remove loose hair and dander before it spreads around the house. Dust, sweep, and vacuum often to be proactive about dust accumulation.

Keep in mind that, similar to people, your pets are likely dealing with dry winter skin, so don’t bathe them too often in an effort to keep the dust under control. Instead, stick to a daily brushing schedule.
