The HVAC system at the Covenant School in Charlottesville, Virginia, needed to be replaced. It was outdated, and posed a health risk to students and teachers. There was urgent need for action, and Jay Taggart, President of W.E. Brown, described the matter as a “ticking time bomb.”
To further compound the problem, Covenant School had old window AC units and a boiler with original and inaccessible piping dating back to 1935. The old pipes malfunctioned frequently and had major leaks. This highly inefficient system resulted in high utility bills and a less than comfortable environment.
The W.E. Brown team had to quickly determine the most cost-effective and efficient solution to the school’s dilemma. Repairing the old HVAC system would have been too costly. In addition, our team only had the summer break to find and implement the most feasible solution. The system had to be in place and operational by the start of the school term.
We proposed the efficient heating and cooling of the City Multi ductless heat pumps. We were successful in our proposal over other vendors because the clearly efficient system was affordable, had a compact design that addressed storage concerns, and also allowed for effective zoning.
The ductless system resulted in the removal of more than 40 window AC units. Apart from being a cost-effective solution to Covenant’s air conditioning problems, the ductless system reduced energy waste, and provided other clear advantages based on the school’s needs.
Now for the first time, thanks to our team and partners like APG, Covenant School has full air conditioning and air filtration. The school has reported lower bills, increased comfort and reduced respiratory illnesses.
Ductless systems are available for both residential and commercial applications, and homeowners will reap the same benefits.
