The whole experience from working with office to the work done by Justin and another young woman was great. They came to my house when they said they would be there. The office called to tell me they were enroute. They fixed the problem quickly. I have had contractors before and have had to chase them to come and then to finish their job. These people have never done that to me.
I had difficulty getting my radiators to come on. Sam W from W.E. Brown came this morning as requested by me and got the radiators working. He cleaned and reconditioned the boiler and checked throughout my old two story farmhouse to make all of the heat was working. He also installed a new filter that I had difficulty inserting properly. Sam W was efficient, courteous and professional. I highly recommend Sam W and W.E. Brown.
I had a water line from the meter to the house that was leaking. Originally it was going to be replaced but Cody found the leak and we agreed to have it repaired instead (about 25% of the cost to replace it and a lot less digging). Cody was very good and worked to ensure it was repaired and even corrected some issues with how the line was originally installed through the foundation. Communications from the office were timely and good. Jennifer was very helpful and nice. Overall very satisfied with the people and the work. I do think WE Brown was on the high side regarding cost and if you have time you should get estimates from other plumbers. Also, WE Brown offers no guarantees on their work when they repair a water line to your house. They do offer a one-year warranty on a replacements.
To have a broken toilet and be so happy with the result of the repair visit a great feat! I ended up getting a new toilet that very afternoon and was really happy with it. The plumber was so friendly and went through all the options with me thoroughly. He really knew what he was doing and did a great job.
My husband and I recently purchased an older home in Charlottesville. When we were having this house inspected, the home-inspector recommended that we replace the hot-water tank sooner rather than later due to its age (it's a 2005 tank). However, Dale, the plumber from W.E. Brown said we might be able to get a couple more years of service from our current hot-water tank since, currently, it's not leaking. "My motto is," he said, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." He also pointed out that, although it's true that gas hot-water heaters will usually begin to leak when it's time for them to be replaced, our current hot-water tank is in an unfinished basement, and there's nothing down there that needs to be protected from water. We're going to take Dale's old-fashioned common-sense advice and wait until our current water heater goes on the blink. The estimate of how much it will cost to replace our water heater was very reasonable. When it comes time to replace our current water heater, we'll be using this company. They have helped to save us money. We really appreciate their honesty.
Excellent customer service from the initial contact. The tech that came out was friendly, knowledgeable and patient in explaining all my options with the repairs I needed. I will be happy to use them again in the future and to recommend them for service to my circle of friends and family.
I had to call W. E. Brown for emergency HVAC service on a Sunday morning of a holiday weekend. The dispatcher that I spoke with was very courteous and helpful taking my information. Within 15 minutes I received a call from Travis, a service technician, stating he could be at my house in 10 minutes. Travis arrived promptly, did some troubleshooting of our system, gave me a reasonable quote and completed the work efficiently. He answered all of my questions patiently and left me feeling very confident in his work and what to expect from our system in the future. I would highly recommend W. E. Brown and Travis to anyone with HVAC needs. My husband and I will definitely be calling on them for our future home care needs!
Matt C. And another technician responded timely on a Saturday. They not only found and corrected the problem, they took the effort to explain what had caused the failure.
Matt explained in advance what the charges would be for the services he felt necessary. Both gentlemen were polite and professional, and impressed me as knowledgable on the geothermal heating system.
I was pleased with their service.
I was pleasantly surprised when a service man was at my home to fix my air conditioner on the same day that I called on the hottest day of the year so far. Matt was very polite and knowledgeable about the service. He explained each thing and made sure that I understood. I had several questions and Matt answered each one. He made sure that I was clear about each thing. I will ask for Matt from now on when I need a repair.
We have had WEBrown come replace our HVAC and hot water heater and several faucets in the house. Jerry Kidd and John did an amazing job with the HVAC and so did Dale and Tyler with the plumbing. It's not only the sheer competence and courtesy of these folks but the caring and engagement with what they do and how they serve that I particularly appreciated. Expert service. Excellent interaction. Thank you WEBrown!
Had a plumbing emergency and called a half dozen Charlottesville plumbers. W.E. Brown said they could send their guy out in under 30 minutes. He was there in under 20 minutes. Very friendly dispatch service (Erin), very professional plumbing and workmanship (Dale), extremely good price, and oh...very friendly. I was worried I’d get ripped off. Instead, I feel like I got excellent value for my money. I highly recommend the W.E. Brown Butt-Crack Boys.
We've had the pleasure of working with Dale at W.E. Brown on several projects around the house and have been very satisfied with each outcome. So after gathering several quotes to replace our hot water heater, we were willing to pay more for W.E. Brown knowing: (i) the quality of the products they carry is higher than most competitors (do your research), and (ii) that Dale will do a great job installing the unit. The modestly higher price is worth the peace of mind that a reputable, local firm is standing behind its products and service.
Justin and McKenzie (sorry if that’s spelled wrong Z!) arrived on time and are both very professional. They helped outline all the options pertaining to installing outlets to be able to mount a TV. They not only made sure I made the decision best for me, they educated me on all other options. They were safe and clean and both exemplify true professionalism that is admirable. Excellent value for the money spent. So glad to know of this company and look forward to using them in the future for all electrical and HVAC needs. Thanks so much you guys.
When I called lady was very polite and helpful and the phone. Scheduled me for the next day appt. Husband was home at the arrival of Technician "Matt". He says he was very prompt on his time of arrival , courteous, he did a great job at finding out the problem, explaining it and suggesting options for us to consider price wise and long range options. Most of all we appreciate his honesty.
W.E. Brown fit me into their first call schedule and came to my house next day. Kerry was extremely helpful and walked me through what needed to be done to test why our A/C wasn’t working. When asked for an estimate, he gave me a range and kept me informed about what he was doing so that I wasn’t surprised by the final cost. I highly recommend W.E. Brown for HVAC needs!
Kenny and his assistant Tyler continued the good service that I got from electricians Michael and Jessie last week. I’m having a whole suite of projects tackled after 8 years of livIng in a now-90-year-old bungalow that is due for some TLC. Decided it was time to have my plumbing updated after a week without hot water, and Kenny gave me a thorough, fair, and straightforward estimate. Ripped out all my old galvanized and aging PVC pipes, replaced them with updated PEX, installed new valves on every faucet, put in a new water line to a fridge that I bought last year (I can FINALLY use the ice maker!), and gave me two new outdoor spigots for hoses. They’re also helping address a leaky basement issue, which is above and beyond.
Could not have been friendlier, fairer, or more understanding, and assured me that my going with them for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC would garner some project bundling savings.
This company has been around for almost a century, and it shows. From what I’ve seen, they only employ the very best! Cherry on top is that they’re right here in Charlottesville, so no long waits for driving if you’re a townie.
Excellent service from the call to solving the problem. First visit--Checkup was handled smoothly, fast and thorough. Serviceman was very courteous.
Second visit--One circuit was out and had been previously diagnosed as breaker box problem and had to be replaced. Michael found problem in severed underground live wire and he fixed it. Thank you for quickly solving a serious problem. Elizabeth Coffey
Kenny Geer has been providing plumbing service to me for years through W.E. Brown. He is always exceptionally professional, efficient, friendly and polite. He does great work and makes appropriate recommendations without pushing for unnecessary repairs. I would recommend him to anyone.
I love W.E.Brown. They've been servicing my home for 5 years now, and are thoroughly professional. They're wonderful on the phone, they have all my pertinent info stored in their records, they tell me when someone will be available, and then they show up when then say! We have a complicated heating system and water system, and they're willing to trouble shoot and go the extra mile. About three years ago, I signed up for the service plan, and that has made it even easier. Several of my calls have been on the weekends, and they have come right out to diagnose and fix. Thank you and keep up the great work!
W.E. Brown has provided many years of excellent service for me. The staff makes every effort to ensure the customers are receiving service in a very timely manner. The technicians appear to be very knowledgeable and willing to discuss various solutions to my issues of concern. I have very high expectations; I can’t recall a time when the service didn’t exceed my expectations. I highly recommend W.E. Brown.
Kenny G has helped us on several occasions with our plumbing needs. I appreciate Kenny, he is honest, polite, & someone I trust completly! It's refreshing to have a technician who is as knowledgeable, & experienced as Kenney, who explains your options, doesn't try break your bank account, & takes pride in his work!!!
Matt C. from WE Brown responded this am to my complaint that my humidifier on the HVAC system installed by WE Brown was not operating. Matt quickly diagnosed the problem and provided the rewiring and installation changes necessary to get the unit operating properly. His professional and friendly attitude and quick response are much appreciated.
Sam provided peace of mind about a potentially malfunctioning heat pump. His knowledge and friendly personality reassured us that all was well. We also appreciated that W. E. Brown could send him to us so quickly during what is undoubtedly a busy time of service calls.
W.E.Brown promptly responded and sent Dale to check out a subtle plumbing noise issue. Dale thoroughly investigated the problem to eliminate the possibility of water hammer and other sources. He concluded that the noise (which did not occur when he was here) was likely from pipe movement in the joists or walls and not any serious concern. He was very pleasant to talk to and obviously very knowledgeable. I will call Brown for any future problems!
Quoted nearly double the next lowest price, were extremely sexist and refused to discuss options with my female roommate. In addition, they actively lied about the age of our water heater, and provided extremely poor advice while being unclear about their fee / charging practices. We were charged nearly $100 for 5 minutes of discussion, with absolutely no quality service provided. Would not recommend under any circumstances.
Michael Anders of W.E. Brown is a careful, nice, and is a superb electrician who is pleasant to have around the house. He checks everything with you, but you can leave him alone to do his work. He isn't satisfied just to replace parts, but probes until he finds the source of the problem. Good man, good company.
Fall has finally begun and the heating system couldn't handle it. Called W. E. Brown and they were backed up... I was on the waiting list for the following day and they got to me before lunch. Between the administrative person and Sam (field tech), they were fantastic. Sam diagnosed the problem and was more than willing to teach me as he worked through the diagnosis. At the end of the day, we have heat again... but getting to that point was actually a pleasant experience!
I've been using W. E. Brown since moving into my new-to-me-but-actually-old home in Charlottesville. The new heat pump retrofit, furnace repair, and all general pipes-and-wires work this house needs are handled by W. E. Brown if scheduling permits.
Most recent work was an old gas furnace/wall heater needed repair. Sam Walker knows his stuff! Quick work, effective repair, and prompt follow-up if necessary - all things I can count on with W. E. Brown.
Fast emergency air conditioning repair: When your air conditioner gives out at 6 pm, having it repaired within an hour seems unlikely. Thankfully W.E. Brown did just that. Matt was incredibly prompt, efficient, and even took the time to explain the problem and walk through potential future problems with our aging a/c unit. Having used W.E. Brown only once before, I was pleasantly surprised to be remembered when I called the emergency line. A great experience all around.
We love Kenny! We bought a house two years ago and Kenny was with us every step of the way when it came to new home owner plumbing issues. He was prompt, incredibly polite, and respectful of our home. He also was not at all the type of plumber to make you pay for things you may or may not need. On the contrary he would lay out all of the options and talk us through the financial aspects of each option while letting us decide what we were and weren't comfortable with.
Kenny G. came over to repair several plumbing issues in my home. He was on time, professional and thoroughly competent. He was also a good teacher and showed me the tricks to doing the same repairs myself in the future. No complaints regarding the quality of the work. It was done quickly and effectively, without a mess. It was nice to have an experienced and efficient technician do the job right the first time, without trying to sell me stuff I didn't need. Good service.
A couple of service men were blocking a side street at the elementary school where I work. I asked if they would be able to move their truck forward, so that parents would be able to get out during dismissal. The response from the men working was very nasty. They were so unpleasant. I'm not sure how good of a job they do as far as service, but their demeanors as a bystander would definitely rule them out to me!
I paid $228 for absolutely nothing and zero results. I hired WE Brown to fix some electrical issues in my house, and after 3 hours not s single issue was resolved and yet I was charged $228, with no explanation and no followup. Horrible competence and customer care. Do not use this outfit for anything.
I just had Duke and Mike out to do some work on my kitchen, and I couldn't recommend them more highly. The guys were polite, punctual, and really went the extra mile to make sure I was happy. Unlike other contractors and electricians who tried to push me into a cookie-cutter solution, or into doing things "their way", Duke and Mike took the time to really listen to what I wanted, and to come up with a custom solution that fit my exact situation. I have a cinder block house with plaster and lath walls, not to mention 60+ year old wiring, so it wasn't a simple solution to completely redo the outlets and wiring in my kitchen and bring it all up to code. In the end, the work was extremely professional and thoroughly explained to me along the way. There were no cost or time overruns, and I will sleep well at night knowing that I don't have to worry about a thing with my kitchen electrics. Great job, and next time, I will call you guys first!
Unfortunately I didn't even get to use them. They may be great for all I know, but they insisted on seeing it in person even though I don't own the home yet and have a lot of photos and measurements to help. They also wanted $69.95 just to come out for the estimate (others want to see it first, but they were the only one that wanted to charge me to do so).
I will happily take my business to someone else who isn't so bothered by potential clients that they charge them for estimates.
